Cebu, the Queen City of the South, is gearing up to speed its economic development by hosting a series of business forums and ICT events supported by Eastern Communications.
As the country’s second largest city and fastest growing economy, Cebu, along with the rest of the world, recognizes that in today’s digital age, connectivity and cyber security are two key issues that need to be addressed by businesses both large and small to remain competitive in the market.
Concerns regarding the security and protection of personal and corporate networks, programs and data were among the critical topics discussed in the recently concluded CyberCon Asia 2017 Summit held in Cebu Convention Center.
Co-presented by Eastern Communications, the Summit brought together IT managers from various industries to exchange knowledge about the state of cyber-security on both the domestic and international level.
Attendees of the CyberCon had the opportunity to learn from renowned security experts from around the globe on how to protect their businesses from cyber-attacks during the interactive panels & round table discussions, as well as evaluate & see demonstrations from dozens of cutting-edge solutions providers that can best protect their enterprise from malicious hackers and other lurking digital threats.
Mr. Anthony Bargar, a former Senior Cyber Policy Advisor of USA Department of Defense; Supt. Ma. Ivy Castillo, Asst. Chief of Anti-Cybercrime Operations and Training Division of the Philippine National Police – Anti Cybercrime Group and; Allan S. Cabanlong, Assistant Secretary for CyberSecurity and Enabling Technologies of DICT Philippines were some of the speakers at the event.
“As part of our mission in providing not only high tech service but also a high touch relationship with our clients, we feel that it is our responsibility to make them aware of the latest trends in the industry and Cyber security is one of the main topics that we focus on this year. We did several Solutions Forum that talked about the latest trends in Cyber security and how companies can protect their data from cyber-attacks,” explained Catherine Muynila, Marketing Division Head.
Eastern Communications also supported the Cebu Digital Governance Summit, which was part of the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) Mega Cebu Month celebration.
With the theme “Padayon ta sa Mega Cebu!”, the summit gathered key stakeholders within Metro Cebu and presented best practices of chosen institutions and organizations in the ICT industry, in the hopes of continuing the vision for sustained urban growth in Metro Cebu up to 2050.
To cap a busy month, Eastern Communications will also be present at the Visayas Area Business Conference, happening this Sept. 28 – 29 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino. Organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this conference is the annual gathering of all members of the chambers of commerce of the different islands of the Visayas Region. The conference is expected to draw over four hundred prominent businessmen and entrepreneurs in Cebu and in the Visayas, including small and medium scale enterprises.
With the theme “Connecting Ideas. Connecting Economies,” the conference will not only address the issues in real estate development, BPO and ICT sectors and in the service industries such as retail and tourism but will also highlight the opportunities and challenges that come with the fast paced economy in the region and the need to for connectivity to gain a competitive edge.
